Carpet cleaning spotters.

I've been cleaning carpet in Carlsbad, CA since 1988 and have learned a thing or two about what works and what doesn't. In my experience I've found that about 80 per cent of carpet spots clean up with just regular cleaning. Given you have decent heat and a quality detergent. 10 or 15 per cent of the spots will clean up with some kind of spotter, then a reclean with your wand. The rest just don't come up.

have 2 or 3 spotters I regularly use for those that will come up. The most often used is just a stronger formulation of my pre spray with maybe a little degreaser added. Sometimes I'll use enzymes for cleaning those spots and they work well too. Other than that just the normal speciality spotters for rust, coffee, red stains, etc.

I think a key factor in all this is learning to recognize what you're looking at and being able to go to the correct spotter first or not even bothering because you already know it won't come up. Even though it would save a lot of time, if I didn't, I still go through all the spotters, just for the sake of doing the best job possible. This is valuable though because this is where I learn what works and what doesn't. I still get surprised from time to time when something cleans that I didn't think would. If I didn't bother then I would have never known and would have done an inferior job.

Proper carpet cleaning and spotting is time consuming but necessary if we want to feel good about what we do and feel good about our transaction. If we can make them happy thinking they got the best job possible then they will call again and refer us and that's what it's all about.
